Woman Seated in Garden

Catalogue note

A woman in a broad dark hat and golden shawl sits on a wooden garden chair, her dark skirt sweeping to the ground, framed by an intense green lawn and deep foliage. The figure is painted with relaxed, summary strokes, the yellow of the wrap the picture’s warmest note and the element that holds the composition together. The pose is elegant and self-possessed, and the saturated greens give the scene a sunlit, languid calm.
