Three White Horses

Catalogue note

Three pale horses run forward through shallow water or sand, their forms simplified into broad planes of cream and grey against dark green hills. The treatment is unusually flat and geometric for a moving subject, each animal nearly a silhouette cut from light. The low horizon and open foreground give the running horses a monumental, almost heraldic presence.
