House among Tall Trees

Catalogue note

A whitewashed house with a red roof sits at the foot of two tall, sparsely leaved trees beneath a broad blue sky, a single dark cypress at right. The brushwork is bright and broken, especially in the sunlit walls and the dappled trunks, and the composition leans on the strong verticals of the trees. The picture has a warm, holiday stillness, an ordinary corner of countryside made luminous.
