Café Interior with Men

Catalogue note

A café or bar interior peopled with men in dark caps and coats, one bent over a glass while a waiter lifts a tray behind. The palette stays in bleached ochres and greys, brushed with quiet economy so that faces are suggested rather than described. The shallow, crowded space and the turned backs create an intimate, faintly voyeuristic mood, a slice of ordinary life observed without sentiment.
