A white farmhouse with dark cypresses sits in a broad valley beneath a range of mountains painted in soft mauves, ochres and blues. The handling is smooth and tonal, the mountains layered to suggest recession, while the foreground fields are broken into pale patchwork shapes. The effect is of great space and silence, the little homestead held small and protective within the encircling ridges.
