Cypresses under Storm

Catalogue note

A low hill crowned with dark cypresses and a single house rises out of a golden field beneath a sky of churning grey-violet cloud. The sky dominates the picture, its broad, turbulent strokes inverting the usual proportion of land and air. The contrast between the luminous wheat and the bruised heavens gives the scene a charged, pre-storm expectancy.
