A street cafe glows under a red awning at dusk, its tables crowded with silhouetted figures and a painted sign reading Vins, Bieres overhead. The sky is an intense ultramarine against which the warm lamplight of the terrace burns orange, and the pavement returns streaks of colour. The handling is summary and atmospheric, more concerned with the contrast of warmth and cold than with detail.
