Autumn Reflections

Catalogue note

A bank of autumn trees is inverted in the water beneath it, the red and gold canopy falling in bright fragments down the canvas. Branches are traced as dark, wavering lines across pale blue reflection, and the whole scene is unstable and shimmering. The mirroring of foliage in water gives the picture a doubling, dreamlike structure.
