The canvas is given wholly to a water surface seen close up, its ripples and reflected foliage worked in blues, ochres and dark greens. Loose, gestural passages let reflected branches and sky break into near-abstraction, and the surface dominates the whole field. Water is treated as the subject rather than the setting.
