Catalogue note

A solitary elephant moves away through a screen of slender grey trees, its bulk half-dissolved among the verticals. The image is built from dappled light and tender close-valued greys, pinks and ochres, with the animal’s rump catching the only firm highlight. The mood is quiet and private, an encounter observed rather than staged.
