Zoo Lake

Catalogue note

A quiet lake or river inlet shows a small red boat moored by a bank, a pale cottage under dark trees and a broad, turbulent sky. The sky is the most actively painted passage, thick scumbled strokes of violet, grey and white that press down on the calm water and its reflections. The contrast between the agitated heavens and the glassy water gives the scene a brooding, watchful calm.
