A sunlit Mediterranean harbour in which whitewashed houses and terracotta roofs crowd a wooded slope above a still basin. Loose, confident brushwork lays in the boats and quayside in soft greens, blues and ochre, while a lone figure sits with bright yellow-green netting at the water’s edge. The turquoise water, with its broken reflections, is treated as the painting’s true subject: a harbour at rest.
