Black Pinnacle

A tall, jagged form rises alone against a blank white ground, its edges black and irregular and its interior streaked with grey, ochre and pink. It could be read as a burnt trunk, a rock pinnacle or a frozen fall, and the picture keeps the ambiguity open. The isolation of the shape in white space gives it a stark, iconic presence.
