A vast cloud-streaked sky occupies two-thirds of the canvas above a low band of pale beach, where dark eroded cliffs rise toward the right. Tiny figures walking near the water give the land its enormous scale. The tonal range is narrow and cool and the handling delicate and atmospheric.
