Fountain in the Park

Catalogue note

A wide view runs down a park avenue toward a tall terrace of city buildings, a large circular fountain of deep blue water in the foreground and small figures scattered across pale gravel. Figures and buildings are handled almost naively, small and flat against the yellow ground, while the fountain’s blue concentrates the picture’s colour. The high, flattened viewpoint gives the scene a charming, diorama-like formality.
